We are seeking volunteers and sponsors to help launch “2012 Feed 2,000,” the Mission’s new community garden project.
In addition to attending a week of Summer Camp, 50 campers will be chosen to become charter members of the Camp Reveal Garden Club where they’ll receive a free garden kit (valued at $300) for them to cultivate at home. These 50 campers will be paired with a garden mentor who will instruct them in setting up their own home garden and will track their individual progress.
Through this program, garden club members will gain knowledge of how and where food is grown, learn to make healthier food choices, learn practical math skills, gain a basic understanding of business principles, learn the importance of community and stewardship and build skill sets needed to excel at home, in school, and in future career endeavors.
Garden club members will receive a gardening course certificate of completion and, through the help of volunteers, will gain the know how to grow a successful garden at home. They will be encouraged to share the fruits of their labor with family, friends, or someone in need.
We are seeking volunteers to be garden mentors! This is a great opportunity to help empower an under-privileged child and make a difference in your community.
To volunteer, please call Tori Flaherty at (812) 421-3800 ext. 264 or e-mail her at Victoria.Flaherty@2rescue.org.
We are also seeking sponsors for our community garden initiative. Our goal is to raise $15,000 to pay for 50 community garden kits ($300 each).
Each gardening kit includes:
• 1- Plastic-I-Like raised gardening bed
• Topsoil, compost/manure
• 1- 12 ¼ in. garden trowel
• Seeds
• 2- 42” tomato cage supports
• 1- 2-gallon watering can
• Corporations & business owners can:
1. Make a donation to purchase a raised bed garden kit for a boy or girl.
2. Purchase a raised bed gardening kit from our garden sponsors, Plasti-I-Like, and “grow a garden, gather a harvest and give to others.” Your participation may inspire your customers to get involved. Camp Reveal will provide signage to be placed inside the raised bed garden for public awareness and a collection box will be provided for customer donations.
3. Register an office group of green thumb volunteers to help us one morning or afternoon during camp week.
Civic organizations and churches can:
1. Make a donation to purchase a raised bed garden kit for a boy or girl.
2. Register as a volunteer to invest your talents in the lives of others.
If you would like to sponsor a community garden kit, please contact Chris-Michael Morrison at (812) 421-3800, ext. 222 or e-mail him at Chris.Morrison@2rescue.org.
